The weather station is a Davis Vantage Pro. The Davis stations rival even government stations when it comes to accuracy, at thousands of dollars less.
This station has fan aspiration for moisture and temperature instruments. The rain bucket has a heater for snowfall so moisture amount can be recorded within minutes instead of days when the snow melts.
Location of the station is about 2.7 miles SW of the Page Municipal Airport station. It is located off the top of Manson Mesa, (original location of Page proper) and down in a lower valley location. Base elevation of station is 4,187' and anemometer is 4,220' or 175' below the west edge of Manson Mesa.
Weather conditions do vary over a 3 mile stretch. If you have ever rode a motorcycle at night, wind blowing in your face. Cool air funnels, & rolls down hill into lower areas at night if conditions are clear and calm. It is not unusual to be 4-10 degrees cooler at night in valley areas verses a ridge or hill top. Thunderstorms can be hit and miss, heavy rain in one area and high and dry in another.
Climate: Summers are very hot, with little, if any, shade. Winters are cold with night time lows well below freezing. Spring weather is highly variable with extended periods of winds. Fall weather is usually mild. Temperatures range from 109° F in June & July to -11° F in December and January. Precipitation is generally light (less than 7 inches annually) though heavy rains and flash flooding can occur in spring and summer. Snowfall is generally on the light side 5"-10" a year. Winter inversions with trapped cold air are common after cold fronts in the winter. Extended days of inversions with clouds and fog, are less common and have occurred for 2-3 weeks during the winter. This is especially likely if snow is on the ground and a strong high pressure system sets up over the SW. Summer monsoon is hit and miss, most rain has occurred late September and October when hurricanes or depressions off the Mexico cost, meet cold fronts from the Pacific NW.
