The city
§ I
A destination worth the flight.

Copenhagen's year runs on daylight. December locks the city into 7-hour days and hygge culture, spring cracks it open with Distortion street parties in Norrebro, summer stretches to 11pm White Nights, and autumn slams shut with horizontal Oresund rain by October.

Late May through mid-June is when Islands Brygge harbor swim opens, rooftops flip their covers off, and the Reffen street food ferry becomes a nightly ritual. Skip Nyhavn for photos only, eat in Vesterbro or Norrebro, take the 24-hour weekend Metro to Amager, and bring cash for Christiania — card readers don't exist and photos are forbidden on Pusher Street.

Avoid January's short, gray days when Tivoli Winter's rides mostly close and even the most committed hygge tips into cabin fever. Avoid November, when horizontal rain floods bike lanes at Norreport and the Amager wind cuts through anything short of a Norwegian shell.

For 2026, target the first three weeks of June before Danes disappear on summer holiday. Rent a Donkey bike within an hour of landing, clip a helmet lock so cafes stay accessible, and reserve Torvehallerne market for a proper lunch before the Refshaleoen food halls close end of September.
