Here's the thing about Fethiye that catches most people off guard: it's sunny roughly 11 hours a day on average, yet somehow still gets hammered with nearly 800mm of rain annually. That's because the Mediterranean coast of Turkey doesn't mess around with seasons — they hit hard and fast. The sweet spot? February, April, May, and October are when this Lycian coast actually feels like the place Instagram promised you. You get warm days (highs around 20–24°C / 68–75°F depending on the month) without the August crush of package tourists, and the sea is actually swimmable without feeling like a bathtub.

Each month feels completely different on the ground. February is wild — you'll see almonds blooming and the light is that sharp, golden-hour quality all day. It's quiet, prices are half what they'll be in summer, and yes, you might catch a rainy afternoon, but the crowds are nonexistent. April is when everyone else figures it out; wildflowers explode across the hills, water temps hit 17°C (63°F), and hiking becomes genuinely pleasant instead of a sweat-soaked ordeal. May feels like the real summer kickoff — highs climb to 28°C (82°F), the sea warms to 21°C (70°F), and you can actually dive and sail without thinking about it. October is the underrated gem: summer heat has finally broken, the sea is still warm from months of baking (around 24°C / 75°F), and the light turns that particular Turkish gold that makes everything look like a painting.

Avoid January like you'd avoid a crowded hamam in August. It's the wettest month, temperatures drop to highs around 15°C (59°F), and half the smaller guesthouses and restaurants just... close. You're not missing much — the locals aren't even there. June through September? Doable if you love heat and don't mind paying triple for everything. Highs regularly hit 32–35°C (90–95°F), humidity climbs, and the beaches are wall-to-wall sunbeds.

Looking at 2026 specifically: Turkey's been trending slightly warmer and drier over the past decade, so expect those February and April days to be a touch more reliable than they were five or ten years ago. May might be marginally hotter than the historical average, but nothing dramatic. October is probably your safest bet if you're hedging against weather surprises — it's got the warmth, the water, and the light without the unpredictability of spring.
