A destination worth the flight.
St Moritz's Alpine climate at 1856 m runs colder than most Swiss resorts. Eleven complete years (2015-2025) show January averaging -8C with the lake frozen solid through late March, July peaking at 15C with 2000+ hours of annual sunshine (Switzerland's highest). Ski conditions run reliably December through April, though the lake freeze is what makes February unique.
February, July, and August are the strongest months. February brings White Turf horse racing across three Sundays on the frozen lake — a 100-year tradition drawing 40,000 spectators — plus reliable Corviglia and Corvatsch snow conditions. July sits at 15C with Muottas Muragl hiking and Segantini Museum programming, and August holds 14C with the year's clearest high-altitude walks to Piz Nair and Lake Sils.
April and November are the months to skip. April is Alpine mud season with lifts closing mid-month and hiking trails still snow-buried above 2000 m. November sits at 0C with pre-season closures, ski lifts opening only late in the month, and half the Palace Hotel dining rooms shuttered for maintenance.
For 2026, book White Turf Sundays (February 8, 15, 22 provisional) by October 2025 — Badrutts Palace rooms sell out first. Late August remains the year's best hiking value before Corvatsch summer-lift closures.

Flight prices, month by month.
Estimated round-trip fares from London, based on a 7-day stay. Rule-of-thumb pricing — the cheapest windows tend to be the shoulder months, so a shift of a fortnight can pay for a hotel.
★ June looks like the cheapest month for flights to St. Moritz — often £60 less than the peak. Fares refresh daily; live prices below.
