The city
§ I
A destination worth the flight.

Stockholm's Baltic-subarctic rhythm is unforgiving in the dark half of the year and generous in the light half. Eleven complete years (2015-2025) show January at -3C with harbor ice near Skeppsholmen, while July averages 22C with the sun setting near 22:00 and archipelago ferries running full schedules. October drops fast, and November brings just 6 hours of daylight.

June through August is when Stockholm actually opens. Midsummer weekend around June 21-24 remains the calendar peak, with Skansen bonfires and Djurgarden picnics until dawn. July delivers reliable 22C ferry weather to Vaxholm and Sandhamn, and August keeps warm evenings while the July tour buses thin out. Locals swim off Langholmen through mid-August.

November and December are the months to avoid unless you accept polar-adjacent darkness. November averages 3C with rain-not-snow slush, and December holds only 6 hours of light despite Gamla Stan's Christmas market. Hotels drop 40 percent for a reason.

For 2026, book June by early March — Stockholm's midsummer rooms sell out first among Nordic capitals. Nobel Week (early December) is the one winter exception worth the flight if you can secure Grand Hotel access.

By the month
§ IV

Flight prices, month by month.

Estimated round-trip fares from London, based on a 7-day stay. Rule-of-thumb pricing — the cheapest windows tend to be the shoulder months, so a shift of a fortnight can pay for a hotel.

★ January looks like the cheapest month for flights to Stockholm — often £99 less than the peak. Fares refresh daily; live prices below.
